West Somerset Railway

Twenty miles of heritage railway through stunning Somerset countryside and coast. Our Railway, a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway is full of fascination whether you are looking for a nostalgic ride back in time through lovely countryside or to study the railway and industrial heritage which our line preserves.. The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, and the buildings of our ten unique stations linked by a twenty mile scenic journey will repay hours of exploration. The surrounding countryside is as varied as it is beautiful. The gently rolling Quantock hills and distant Exmoor, unspoilt villages and farms nestling in leafy lanes, the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel with views of distant South-Wales, confident Church Towers, Dunster's imposing Castle and Minehead's seaside charm are all waiting to be discovered. West Somerset Railway - The longest Heritage Railway in England. West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust

The West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust Ltd is a charitable company established in 1972 and is one of the charities supporting the West Somerset Railway. The Gauge Museum is based at Bishops Lydeard station, which is the Heritage Trust’s headquarters. The museum is based in the former GWR goods shed and has recently completed a significant refurbishment and aims to show the history of railways in the West Country and the WSR, in particular. West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust – The official website of the West Somerset Railway Heritage Trust (wsrht.co.uk)

West Somerset Railway Association

The West Somerset Railway Association has been supporting the Railway since 1971 with all forms of volunteer activity, from fundraising to working on the line and restoring carriages and locomotives.  The Association’s restored carriages and locomotives run on the railway. Some things have changed over time, but fifty years later the WSRA remains the support organisation for the West Somerset Railway. West Somerset Railway Association | Supporting the Heritage of the West Somerset Railway for 50 years (wsra.org.uk)
